Dear friends,

We, the PA Secure team, would like to share some news with you on important developments in the EUSBSR Policy Area Secure (jointly coordinated by the CBSS Secretariat and the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, MSB).
2023 was a year that was dominated by the issues, forced on the Baltic Sea Region by the rapidly changing world: consequences of the pandemic,  Russian aggression in Ukraine, climate change. It is evident that our region needs “all hands on deck” even more than before to make BSR more resilient at all levels: from individual level to the national level, from state authorities – to volunteers.
This year we concentrated on cooperating for resilience: we worked hard on international projects brining youth into disaster risk reduction efforts, assisting BSR countries in developing volunteerism, supporting Ukraine. We reached out to other macro-regions (we visited Danube colleagues and they visited us) and to other EUSBSR Policy Areas (launched a cross-PA project with PA Education). We also ventured into crisis communication and submerged munitions in the Baltic Sea: hopefully, projects on these topics will start next year!
We wish that the next year will bring peace and tranquility to all!

Happy holidays and stay safe and secure!
PA Secure Team
