Project Development Workshop on addressing Climate Change Risks

Partners in the CRCC: Making Communities Resilient to Climate Change: Cross-Sectorial Cooperation in Capacity-building-project, funded by the Swedish Institute, met in Stockholm 18-19 January 2017 to discuss the way forward with the cooperation, and to plan on how to proceed with a project application to the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) – EU Civil Protection Mechanism. Parts of an application were also jointly drafted during the workshop, parallel to discussions about priorities and strategic objectives.

Natural disasters like floods, storms or heat waves with cascading effects are growing by magnitude and number in all regions in the world, including the Baltic Sea Region. Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) Sustainable Cities Commission will take the coordinating role in the upcoming project for which an application will be submitted this spring, and the other partners present at the workshop, who will also be the partners in the upcoming project, were the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), Hamburg Fire and Rescue Service, The Main School of Fire Service Warsaw, the Stockholm Environmental Institute Tallinn Centre (SEIT), Jelgava Municipality, the Union of the Baltic Cities (UBC) Safe Cities Commission, as well as the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) Secretariat’s PA Secure team and HA Climate team.
