    Representatives of the European countries, stakeholder groups and partners will gather in Italy, 21-23 November 2018, for the European Forum on Disaster Risk Reduction (EFDRR). CBSS Secretariat’s Director General Maira Mora will participate in the Ministerial Roundtable and deliver a keynote speech at the plenary session “Implementing Sendai Framework, SDGs and Paris Agreement in a Coherent Way” on 22 November.” The Latvian Presidency of the CBSS is in the process of preparing an overview of Sendai implementation in the Baltic Sea Region, which will be presented on the 21 November.     Under the Latvian Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), the State Fire and Rescue Service, in cooperation with the CBSS Secretariat, the Swedish Institute, EUSBSR Policy Area Secure and Riga Stradiņš University, will host the conference ‘Societal Security in the Baltic Sea Region: Challenges and Solutions’.

    This event will gather Alumni of the Baltic Leadership Program in Civil Security, experts in the field of civil protection, researchers from the Baltic Sea Region states and students from the universities of Latvia. The event will give participants new insights and knowledge regarding the current state of a common societal security culture in the Baltic Sea Region and how the perception of risks influences the understanding of societal security. Keynote speakers from the United Nations and European Union along with academia and private sector will share their best practice examples on how to kick-start the educational programs and awareness-raising campaigns.

    The programme will consist of four blocks: The Keynote Speaker on the topic of a common societal security culture, two panel discussions focusing on education and awareness raising at the regional level, followed by two interactive workshops and a closing session.
